Public recreation facilities in Indian River Shores are pretty much limited to an opportunity to enjoy the town's five-mile expanse of Atlantic Ocean beach.
The town's public beach access is located near the center of Indian River Shores at the foot of Beachcomber Lane (no public parking is available here).
On the southern end of town, an Indian River County beach -- Tracking Station Park -- offers plentiful parking plus lifeguards, restrooms, showers and picnic tables.
On the northern end of town, an Indian River County beach access area (with parking) is located just north of John's Island, and a second is located farther north between Baytree and Marbrisa.
While the town of Indian River Shores (unlike neighboring Vero Beach) allows dogs on its stretch of beach, the county does not permit any animals in its beach parks or beach access areas. Hence, the only way to get your dog to the beach using public access is to use the town access -- but since there is no parking, you and your dog will have to walk to get there.
The other thing worth noting is that there are dozens of Har-Tru tennis courts in Indian River Shores, a couple of championship golf courses, and literally hundreds of docks on or just off the Indian River Lagoon. But they are all part of private communities. There is no public access for boaters in Indian River Shores. |
